HANAN GHANEM

Born and raised in Alexandria, artist and painter Hanan Ghanem moved to Cairo in 1999. The graduate of Alexandria University’s School of Fine Arts spent the early years of her career in television and media, though she continued to be an avid art-lover.

It was not until the revolution that Ghanem began to seriously consider taking up art professionally again.

Inspired by the images of women at protests and activism on the streets, she began to paint again in 2011. Her art is an ode to the courageous life force that makes us, to the diversity and beauty of all the women who struggle to survive the boundaries of their existence, an ode to the
goddesses we are born to be and a celebration of the feminine force that is nature at its purest form.

According to Ghanem, the canvas is her mirror; her identity emphatically personified. The journey of her identity is the journey of all women… one that prevails space, time and culture propelling its strength from the female force. A force that nourishes nature, a force of boundless passion fuelling all that is worth anything in this life.
